Bhaskara-I was the first Experimental Remote Sensing Satellite built in India.
The main objectives were to conduct Earth observation experiments for applications related to hydrology, forestry, and geology using a two-band TV camera system, and to conduct ocean-surface studies using a two-frequency satellite microwave radiometer (SAMIR) system.
Role of Sensor Systems
* Television Cameras operating in visible (0.6 microns) and near-infrared (0.8 microns); to collect data related to hydrology, forestry and geology.
* Satellite microwave radiometer (SAMIR) operating at 19 GHz and 22 GHz for the study of ocean-state, water vapour, liquid water content in the atmosphere, etc.
